December 7th - carol worship

Yesterday's post caused a bit of conversation in front of and behind the scenes.  Thank you all for sharing and being kind.   I thought I'd lighten the mood with today's post and simply ask a question.....

Why is it so hard to find a Christmas carol which is actually worshipful?    By which I mean, how come most carols are telling a story about what happened ( and let's face it we all know the story) rather than singing to Jesus about how much we love Him ?

Im struggling to think of one ' Jesus focused' carol where the words are directed specifically towards God.

O little town - we are singing to a place!
Hark the Herald - we are singing about angels singing, and exhorting each other to join them
Silent Night - telling the story
O Come All Ye Faithful - singing to each other
Good King W - storytelling
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear - storytelling
O Holy Night - about the night Jesus was born

and so on and so forth.   And don't get me wrong, I really love Christmas Carols and I do love that at this time of the year the shops are full of canned music playing songs which are loosely Jesus focused.   But I would love so much more to be singing worship songs to Him at this time of year.

I wrote one myself a good few years back and it was harder than I thought it would be.  If anyone else knows of any really good Jesus focused worship carols we could all sing at this time of the year please do share them.   Paul Baloche has released a couple of Christmas albums which mix traditional carols with worship songs quite nicely.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XmcxnI0tb4

I hope you enjoy listening to this and worshipping along.  And I hope that this year as you sing a few carols you will be able to see past the sometimes rather twee and old fashioned words to the truths which are expressed in them and use them to declare into the darkness of this world that indeed the light has come and that there is joy and hope.

sorry I just had to add this in at the end cos it made me laugh out loud  :)
