dec 2nd. 1st Sunday in Advent. Hope

Hope is the subject of the first Sunday in Advent.   Here is a poem I wrote a while back on the subject. :)

Hope

Katrina rages, San Andreas shakes
Tsunami wall of water crashes in
And overhead the ash cloud spews its death
on innocent Pompeii so not one breath
of life is left behind

Chernobyl lies, infertile, deathly cold
Atomic tundra caught in terror’s grip,
While fire rips through the leafy forest glade
In seconds torching decades rooted deep.

Anihilation has occurred
A devastating blow been dealt
The death of every future chance
For nothing henceforth can survive……. and yet…

And yet,
Between the paving slabs
And yet,
On top of piles of ash
And yet,
Amid the lava flows
The shoots appear – the shoots of hope.
The human soul is not laid waste
By any scheme of man or hell
For love is stronger than the grave
And hope springs up
Where death appears victorious,
And cruel despair in vain attempts to dwell.

Now we hope feebly, as an act of desperation, because there is nothing else we can do.  But one day. one day soon, we will hope because truth and justice will reign and a good and righteous God will have established His kingdom here.

Come Lord Jesus.
